Price of maritime transport: protesters in Santo Antão threaten to block the port road

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Car owners, drivers and economic operators in Santo Antão demonstrated this Friday, 21st, against the increase in maritime transport prices.

During the demonstration outside the Porto Novo pier, vehicle owners and drivers, economic operators and anonymous citizens informed that, if the measure continues, they intend to tighten up “in the next few days” the protest actions, which will include “blocking” the entrance from the port.

Domingos Duarte, spokesman for the group, quoted by Inforpress, said that the increases, namely at the level of vehicle transport “very exaggerated” and that they will “complicate people’s lives a lot” in Santo Antão.

Yesterday the CV Interilhas ship returned empty from Porto Novo to São Vicente, without cars or people, because no one wanted to travel with the company, as a form of protest.

almost tripled

It should be remembered that among the measures recently announced by the Government, the transport of vehicles increased from 5,400 escudos to 15,250 escudos on the Santo Antão/São Vicente line.

In terms of passengers, tickets are, as of today, 20 percent (%) more expensive for residents and 80% for non-residents. At the national level , this increase is causing a lot of indignation.
