Proposal to amend the labor code will penalize workers, warns UNTC-CS

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The secretary general of UNTC-CS, Joaquina Almeida, said today, in the city of Praia, that the proposal to change the labor code announced by the Government will penalize workers and worsen the labor situation.

The general secretary of the União Nacional dos Trabalhadores Cabo-verdianos (National Union of Cape Verdean Workers) – Central Sindical (UNTC-CS) made these statements to the press when commenting on a communication by the Minister of Family, Inclusion and Social Development, on the May 25th newscast, in which Fernando Elísio Freire gave an account of the Government’s intention to take, to the second parliamentary session in June, an initiative to change the labor code.

“The Government cannot take this decision without the pronouncement and approval of the social partners in their own headquarters. So far, UNTC-CS has not received any consultants to discuss the amendment proposals,” She said.

Still on the minister’s statement regarding maternity and paternity leave in the private sector, she reaffirms the support of the UNTC-CS requesting its equivalence to that of the Public Administration.
