Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verde Red Cross stated that despite the context of crises, 2023 was a year in which 90 percent (%) of the actions were materialized and the institution’s main projects continued to operate.

Speaking to Inforpress, the president of the Red Cross, Arlindo Carvalho, highlighted that 2023 was a good year for the institution, which managed to materialize its operational plan with very satisfactory results.

“Last year the Red Cross continued to work with its strategic plan and implement institutional reform projects. A great milestone that in one way or another conditioned the entire world and with very strong support at Cape Verde level has to do with the war between Russia and Ukraine and in recent months in the Middle East.

He highlighted that the Cape Verde Red Cross is an institution that was born from challenges, grew with challenges and the actions developed made it possible to reinforce the institution’s credibility at an international level and increase humanitarian diplomacy.

“We consider that we managed to achieve around 90% of our plans in 2023 and the 10% were simply not materialized due to the crises and the international situation and were projected for the year that is now beginning”, he highlighted.

For 2024, he pointed to the entry into operation of the gaming platform, installation of the National Care School as one of the priorities of the Red Cross of Cape Verde.

The aforementioned school, he explained, will be a space that will house many projects and various training actions in the field of first aid, care, primary health in various aspects and that it will come into operation later this year.

“The National School of Health and Care is seen not only as an institution that meets the country’s current needs in terms of care related to the senior population, but also to people who need special attention. In addition to people with low income, we also have to design ways to support this section of the disadvantaged population”, he indicated.
