In his message at the beginning of the 2023/24 school year, the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, hoped that everything would go on in “normality and tranquility”, praising the importance that Cape Verdean families have given to education. Likewise, he asked that pending issues related to labor issues be resolved and acknowledged that there are still some challenges to overcome.
In its message, JMN began by addressing students, teachers, parents and guardians, as well as employees and everyone involved in the start of the new school year and also referred to the importance that families have -Verdianas have given to education.
The President of the Republic emphasizes that the process of building Cape Verde’s future involves excellent education and therefore, according to JMN, “we must have the ambition to recruit the best teachers, well trained, with solid preparation, with scientific solidity -pedagogical, guarantee continuous training and create the conditions to keep them motivated and on their career path”.
Along with better attention to the teaching class, the Cape Verdean Head of State said that the infrastructure network and its organizational model, equipment and programs, “should deserve similar concern”.

“I reiterate my hope that with the beginning of this academic year, pending issues related to labor issues will be resolved, and that a climate of dialogue, trust and common sense will be established. This way, we can create a good working environment, reinforce motivation and ensure greater efficiency and quality in the educational system”, stated the government official.
Of the challenges to be overcome, JMN highlights the need for consensus on the process of reforming the educational system and the issue of teacher mobility, improving accessibility on some penetration roads and increasing safety in transporting students when they have to resort to open-top vans, the reduction of overcrowding in some classes, the reduction in school dropouts and the reduction in the discrepancy in achievement between girls and boys.
At the end of the message, he recognized and praised once again the work and dedication of several generations of teachers, “who have given their best and made an invaluable contribution to the training of Cape Verdeans, in all areas of knowledge and for the progress of our country.”
