Africa-Press – Cape verde. The community of Caibros, Ribeira Grande de Santo Antão is outraged by the difficulties it faces, namely with regard to the conditions of an access road, which survives the rainy season, so that the situation of being isolated does not happen again, each when floods come. The situation forced a patient to be transported on a makeshift stretcher.
After about three days sick, without being able to go to the hospital, a resident of Caibros, a landlocked area of Ribeira Grande, Santo Antão asked for people’s help to be transported on a stretcher, since the road conditions, especially in this rainy season , does not allow, because the community is isolated.
The case took place this Thursday, 15, however, according to a resident heard by A NAÇÃO online, “there was another sick person who was unable to go to the hospital and who was lucky to be taken care of by a family doctor who was in the community”.
old problem
These situations, which were denounced on social media, bring even more revolt to the community, since accessibility is a problem that Caibros has had for a few decades, he says, without ever being solved, despite many promises from the government.
“Any drizzle is a sign of trouble. Part of the road passes through a stream and is only damaged if there is heavy rain. The other part of the road that goes under the rock is dirt and, therefore, if it is wet, the cars cannot go up”, he laments.
In addition, according to him, there are problems due to the fact that the stones are always falling, constituting a danger for everyone who passes by.
Forgotten by the rulers
Tired of demanding a road in good condition, for more than 20 years, residents say they have been forgotten by the government, referring that at the time of the elections, the current mayor of Ribeiragrandense promised and “even presented a project to improve road conditions”, but that, “after winning the elections, it did not materialize”.
Meanwhile, patients continue to be transported on a stretcher on this route of approximately 2.4 km, about 40 minutes, to where they can find transport, this at the mouth of both streams, so that they can then go to the hospital.
Discredited, but without losing hope of one day seeing the access improved and able to withstand the rains, and to bring the community of Caibros closer to the rest of the population, the active voices of the community say they are preparing a demonstration to claim what they have right.
“ We are organizing for a demonstration, because we cannot bear this situation any longer”, he concluded.
