Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Rotary Club of Praia is organizing a peace and conflict prevention march to mark the 121st anniversary of the founding of Rotary International on February 23, 1905.

In a statement to Inforpress, the president of the Rotary Club of Praia, Edson Cruz, stated that it is “an important initiative” aimed at drawing the public’s attention to the promotion of peace and conflict prevention.

“The march will take place on February 23rd, starting at the Lém Ferreira roundabout and ending in the Terra Branca neighborhood, so we hope to count on the participation of the population in this walk for the promotion of peace,” reinforced Edson Cruz.

He added that at the end of the march, an open discussion is scheduled on building positive peace and Rotary’s work in promoting peace worldwide.

The same source stated that Rotary has gradually expanded its reach and vision of humanitarian services and today has approximately 1.2 million members worldwide.

The organization arrived in Cape Verde in 1992 with the creation of the Rotary Club of Praia and has been working in seven areas of focus.

“Promoting peace, combating disease, clean water and sanitation, supporting education, improving health, economic development, and environmental protection,” highlighted the official, lamenting that the organization still faces a lack of members.

He added that membership is important for supporting projects that, in addition to having a greater impact on donations, help expand the capacity to develop and implement humanitarian projects.

“These projects are developed within the areas of focus and are submitted to competitions, either through the district or through the Rotary Foundation, which is global, and with the funding obtained, programs are developed and projects are executed,” pointed out the president of this institution.

Regarding the activity, he added that at the end of the march, an open discussion is scheduled on building positive peace and Rotary’s work in promoting peace worldwide.
