The maritime delegate of Santo Antão, Miguel Gomes, according to Inforpress, said that around 7:30 am today he was informed that a yacht had sunk on one of the beaches of the city of Porto Novo, with seven people on board, and that, being towed to the berth, it sank due to damage caused by the grounding.

“The sailboat was promptly rescued by some boats that were nearby. He managed to tow the vessel to the pier, but due to damage caused during the stranding, it sank”, explained Miguel Gomes.

The seven crew members, who were detained by the police authorities for identification, are from Gabon and Ghana, but there are suspicions that there was a Cape Verdean on board, added the maritime delegate, believing that he could be at large.
