Sal Island: Hotel occupancy rate approaches 100% for New Year’s Eve

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Most hotels in Sal have an occupancy rate of 95/100% for this end of the year, with tourists from various latitudes, but mostly Nordics, who have been looking for the island to spend this festive season.

On a tour of hotel establishments in the tourist city of Santa Maria, Inforpress was able to see that the dynamics for New Year’s Eve are “satisfactory”, despite complaints about the exorbitant prices of airline tickets, even if purchased in advance.

In terms of tourism, the occupancy rate in different tourist resorts, namely Grupo Riu, Hilton and Farol, varies from 95 to 100 percent (%), with some days of “overbooking” (excess reservations).

In the case of the RIU Group, referring to its six resorts in the archipelago, demand for the island of Boa Vista was the surprise of the year which, like the island of Sal, has an expected occupancy of 95%.

The same trend can be seen at the Hilton Cabo Verde hotel, which this year also has a better occupancy rate than in previous years, reaching 100%, as assured by deputy director Ádrian Ortega.

“In general, this year has been a very good year, with more occupancy than previous years and, specifically, now, with the high season approaching the end of the year, the hotel’s occupancy rate is around 100%, so We can refer to a very good block, I think for all hotel units”, assured Ortega.

“The type of customer is a little different from other times of the year, they are people who come to seek our paradise because of the sun, mainly from northern Europe to escape the cold for a bit”, he concluded.

According to Inforporess, Salvatore Oggiano, deputy director of the Farol hotel, whose occupancy for New Year’s Eve is also fully booked, said he did not expect this dynamic.

“Here the percentage is 100%, with 60% Italians, 10% Czechs, 10% Swedes and the rest are French and Portuguese. It is an excellent occupation and we will continue like this until the end of January”, she highlighted.

The manager of the Budha Beach hotel, Paco Del Pozo, who has a percentage of around 86%, blames the airlines that have taken advantage of this season to charge “exorbitant” prices, which makes tourists look for other cheaper destinations to spend the holidays.

At the Porto Antigo Hotel, also very popular among Nordic tourists, the occupancy rate is around 85%, but with the prospect of increasing to 95% in the last two days of the year, as is already customary.

As usual, to toast the new year, establishments offer their customers buffet options with musical entertainment that is also open to the public, writes Inforpress.
