Santiago: ACAISA Encourages Entrepreneurs to Invest in the Digitalization of their Businesses to Increase Sales

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of ACAISA encouraged entrepreneurs, especially its members, to invest in the digitalization of their businesses this Friday and expressed the full support of this trade association in helping them to further increase their sales.

Felisberto Veiga was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the opening of the multisectoral fair “Flavors of Santiago” organized by the Commercial, Agricultural, Industrial and Services Association of Santiago (ACAISA), which runs until Saturday, the 8th, at the Campus of the University of Santiago, in Assomada, Santa Catarina, on the island of Santiago.

“(…) Although our market is small, today it is possible to do business with the entire world from Cape Verde. Therefore, to do business with the entire world it has to be through what digital reach today allows and provides, especially for entrepreneurs”, he said, challenging entrepreneurs to invest in digital entrepreneurship.

According to him, ACAISA, as is the understanding of the country and the world, has been raising awareness among its members about the importance of entrepreneurship and digitalization as important tools for the development of trade and tourism.

“Digitalization brings the market and people closer together,” he insisted, proposing that entrepreneurs invest in the so-called “local products” aimed at the Cape Verdean diaspora.

“These products made in Cape Verde have a different flavor and an ethnic connection, so to speak, and from our point of view we believe that any emigrant who is in the diaspora when they see a well-designed and well-made product, the option is to buy it, even if it is online,” he added.

According to him, given that there are tools and mechanisms, ACAISA as a trade association now has the challenge of providing that “shock” so that entrepreneurs can see this opportunity of digital entrepreneurship.

In this regard, Felisberto Veiga announced that next year ACAISA will be working on a whole programme involving workshops and specific training, with a focus on specialisation for online business managers. Regarding the first edition of the multi-sector fair “Flavors of Santiago”, he said that the aim is to highlight local flavours and promote tourism. According to him, visitors will find in this “small exhibition” seasonal products transformed by students of the Industrial Food Preparation course at the Employment and Vocational Training Centre (CEFP) in Santa Catarina, as well as seasonal agricultural products and various services provided by entrepreneurs from the island of Santiago. “The aim of this fair is to show that there are business opportunities and that there is the capacity to do things in Cape Verde, especially in the areas of services and gastronomy”, explained the businessman. At the same time, a workshop will be held on the theme “entrepreneurship and the digitalisation of the economy in the development of trade and tourism” and cultural events.
