Santiago: Banco BAI Cabo Verde promotes reforestation campaign in Serra Malagueta Natural Park

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Today, Saturday, the BAI Cabo Verde bank promoted a reforestation campaign in the Serra Malagueta Natural Park, in the interior of Santiago, during which around 200 seedlings of fruit trees were planted, from mangoes, tangerines, oranges, among others. Promoted in partnership with the “Cidade Verde” project, led by the farmer and activist, Emileno Ortet, the initiative was a form of solidarity with the local population, victims of the tragic fire of last April 2, which, in addition to an important burned area , caused nine fatalities, including eight soldiers and an employee of that park.

Despite the fog and drizzle that was felt, the group of BAI Cabo Verde bank employees from Praia, Assomada (Santa Catarina de Santiago) and elements from the island of Sal, in a total of more than 30 young people, spread out along the slopes of the Serra Malagueta Natural Park, embodying this reforestation campaign which, according to the Director of the Marketing and Communication Office at BAI Cabo Verde, Deina Barros, is yet another initiative of this banking institution within the scope of its policy of sustainability and social responsability.

“BAI Cabo Verde has been on the road to sustainability, promoting social, sporting, cultural and also environmental initiatives, within the framework of our social responsibility policy. Just as we support our National Basketball Team, which will participate in the World Cup, we also support other causes and, this time, an environmental cause which is this reforestation campaign in the Serra Malagueta Natural Park”, argued Deina Barros, in statements to A Nation.

Set an example for other entities

Both the BAI Cabo Verde bank and the “Cidade Verde” project want this partnership in the reforestation campaign in the Serra Malagueta Natural Park to be the first of many other partnerships in favor of greater environmental sustainability. On the other hand, they also hope that this initiative will influence other entities, public and private, to support environmental causes.

In addition to BAI Cabo Verde employees, including its president, the reforestation campaign that took place on the morning of this Saturday, 19th, in the Natural Park of Serra Malagueta, in the interior of the Island of Santiago, was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, local delegates from Santa Catarina and Tarrafal de Santiago and technicians from the natural park.

Tribute to the victims of the April 2 fire

Speaking to A NAÇÃO, the young Emileno Ortet, mentor of the “Cidade Verde” project, highlighted that the reforestation campaign in the Serra Malagueta Natural Park, in addition to being an act of solidarity with the local community that also lost homes , land, pastures and plants, was also a way of honoring the eight (8) soldiers and a park technician who lost their lives in the tragic fire on April 2nd.

Emileno Ortet, who is also a farmer and an agent of the National Police, Emileno Ortet, made a point of highlighting that the reforestation campaign in the Natural Park of Serra Malagueta, carried out in partnership with BAI Cabo Verde, is an initiative that meets to the actions of the “Green City” project, born in 2018, to spread fruit trees throughout the capital of the country, encourage the fight against climate change and help the most needy families to have an income (fruits that they can eat, sell or exchange for other products ).
