Africa-Press – Cape verde. The commander of the PN of Santiago Norte, Estêvão Fonseca, gave a positive assessment of the Christmas festivities this Thursday, 28th and stated that during this period everything took place “normally” and there were few records of occurrences.

Speaking to Inforpress, Estêvão Fonseca explained that the few incidents recorded were “not that” worrying and even in terms of road traffic, he said that there were some accidents, but that there was only material damage.

Regarding the case of homicide in the municipality of Tarrafal, which occurred on December 24th, this official explained that it was not fully linked to the celebration activities during the Christmas season, despite having occurred on this date.

Regarding this case, he reported that a 59-year-old individual attacked another 38-year-old, both male, with stones, and the victim ended up dying.

However, he stated that this case does not fall within the scope of festive activities, justifying that the aggressor apparently has “psychic problems”, highlighting that this homicide occurred in a slum where the aggressor resides, but that after this incident, the aggressor was wandering around the streets. city ​​streets with traces of blood on their hands and clothes.

At this point, he reported that the attacker has already been presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and preventive detention has been applied as a coercive measure.

Likewise, he spoke about the situation of the case that occurred in Engenhos, where a 15-year-old boy died after drowning, reinforcing that these are cases that are not closely linked to festive activities and that do not even concern public safety, where the National Police You can intervene to prevent the worst.

As for the activities related to Christmas, the 24th and 25th, he highlighted that in general they took place in “normality”, highlighting that the operational plan “Safe Christmas and New Year’s Eve” is underway, which started on December 1st and culminates on January 5, 2024.

This plan has 172 officers from all six police stations on the streets day and night (Santa Catarina, São Salvador do Mundo, São Lourenço dos Órgãos, Santa Cruz, São Miguel and Tarrafal), and aims to guarantee public safety and tranquility of the citizens and their assets.
