Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão (AMSA), Armindo Luz, assured on Thursday, the 15th, that the chromatograph will be fully operational by the end of May to provide support in controlling the quality of cachaça on this island.
The chromatograph is used to perform purity tests on specific substances, in compound purification processes, to separate components in a mixture, in monitoring industrial processes, among other purposes.
Armindo Luz, who was speaking at the Santo Antão Intermunicipal Assembly session, explained that this equipment, acquired by AMSA a few years ago, had problems that have already been resolved in Portugal, but that it will be operating at the Afonso Marinho Agricultural Centre in Ribeira Grande later this month.
In addition to supporting grogue quality control, the chromatograph will also be used to control the quality of water consumed on the island of Santo Antão.
The equipment was acquired in 2018 by AMSA with the support of the Government, as part of the reinforcement of grogue quality control measures on the island of Santo Antão.
With the chromatograph, authorities involved in inspection will be in a better position to control the quality of grog produced on the island.
Santo Antão, with an area of 1,034 hectares of agricultural land covered by a sugar house, has the capacity to produce two million liters of genuine grogue per year.
