According to Infirpress, Carlos Monteiro was speaking at the signing of adhesion agreements to the Bolsa Atleta program and the awarding of prizes to winners of national championships in the sports of athletics, handball, cycling, and karate.
The minister confirmed the Government’s intention to build a track and a training center for athletics in Lagoa do Planalto Leste, Santo Antão, and is in negotiations with the landowner for the implementation of the project.
He highlighted the fact that sport is undergoing “a new turning point” marked by the “good results” that the country is achieving at the national and international levels, thanks to the Government’s policy, which places the athlete in a central position.
The granting of the Athlete Scholarship and prizes to national champions is part of the government policy that makes sport one of the pillars of Cape Verde’s development and gives centrality to the athlete.
In the case of Porto Novo, the Government reiterated the financing of two-thirds of the covered multi-sports complex, which will cost 177 million escudos.
