Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Association of Chinese Businessmen in Cape Verde assured that he was satisfied with the Christmas movement now in 2023, in Mindelo, which allowed sales to increase and employ “many more people”.
Paulo Pan showed his satisfaction following a round carried out by Inforpress and in which it was found that Chinese stores are the places of commerce with the most people for Christmas shopping in the center of the city of Mindelo.
The businessman made a comparison with the years of the Covid-19 pandemic, during which, according to the same source, they experienced a “difficult time” because of the global situation for the freight of goods, but also because of the population’s constraints regarding the power to purchase
“But the market economy is starting to normalize and sales are increasing. At this moment it is totally different, São Vicente and Cape Verde are calmer, we are employing more people”, she assured.
Hence, he added, the confidence of around 200 businesspeople residing on the island and owners of 50-60 stores “starts to grow” and allows us to see “better times”.
“We feel totally different, much better than before”, he assured.
On the other hand, the association has also invested in the social area and made donations of toys, shoes and clothing to social institutions in different areas of São Vicente this Christmas season.
“But this is something we do every year, even when the economy is down. The association asks the different stores for help, we gather it and distribute it to the different associations”, he explained, adding that the donations are made without “much publicity”, as they are “just a way of giving back a little for what they receive from Cape Verdeans”.
“Not everyone has the opportunity to give the best to their children, so we have to help. The world works like that”, considered Paulo Pan.
On the list of those covered by the Chinese association are institutions such as Casa de Criança, in Ribeira Bote, Center for Reception of Children with Special Vulnerabilities (CACVE), in Chã de Alecrim, Center “Um Bracinha”, in Iraq (Ribeira de Julião) and many others.
