São Vicente: Citizenship Observatory asks groups to review the schedules of parade for an “inclusive Carnival”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Active Citizenship Observatory urged carnival groups to review the schedule of the official parades set, in Mindelo, for Tuesday night and think of an “inclusive Carnival” in which everyone participates.

In a note sent to Inforpress, Orlando Lima showed that he did not agree with the schedule of the parades determined this year to take place from 6:30 pm. Therefore, he appealed to the “common sense” of the groups and the Independent League of Groups itself Officials from São Vicente (LIGOC-SV) in order to rethink their decision since the schedule “can be configured in an authentic conditioning of citizens in access to culture, especially of a popular festival such as Carnival”.

According to the same source, LIGOC-SV, before deciding, should have thought about the children and youth public and the elderly, as well as citizens who live in remote areas of the city of Mindelo, in the transport back home after the parades to the night. Moreover, on issues related to security because that schedule has, he added, “direct implications for the security of citizens and their respective homes”.

“It should also be taken into account that Carnival is inclusion and never exclusion, which could go against the grain of cultural values and artistic creation”, maintained Orlando Lima, requesting in the name of the Constitution of the Republic that LIGOC and the City Hall of São Vicente “in a humble way” to rethink the decision.
