Africa-Press – Cape verde. An emigrant died on the afternoon of Tuesday, the 15th, in the sea of ​​Baía das Gatas, in São Vicente, during a fishing trip with friends. The 39-year-old individual lived in Belgium and was about to return, after holidays in Cape Verde.

According to the online newspaper Mindel Insite, the emigrant went fishing with friends in the area behind the music stage at Baía das Gatas and fell overboard at around 3.30 pm.

The body was rescued by Coast Guard divers at around 18 hours and 50 minutes.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center reported, in a note quoted by Mindel Insite, that it received a call from the National Police reporting the occurrence and activated the search and rescue vessel Ilhéu dos Pássaros, which left Porto Grande at 5:55 pm and arrived at the site half an hour later.

Body handed over to competent authorities

The body was found by divers and placed on board the ship at around 6:50 pm, and the vessel returned to Porto Grande, where it handed over the corpse to the competent authorities.

The victim, a 39-year-old man, whose name was not revealed, lived in Belgium and was about to return to the host country.
