São Vicente: High schools once again collect garbage on beaches for the International Collect Project

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Students from the Ludgero Lima High School and the Salesian School of Arts and Crafts of Mindelo will again collect garbage on the São Vicente beaches, this Friday, as part of the second phase of the International Collect Project.

According to a note from the Institute of the Sea (IMAR) in São Vicente, this is a project whose objective is to collect plastic on certain beaches and contribute to the knowledge about the distribution and abundance of coastal debris in African countries, with the help of specialists from universities and research institutes.

So, on Friday, students will collect the waste in Praia Grande, and on Tuesday will collect on the São Pedro beach.

This activity, the same note refers, emerged through the Partnership for the Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO), which joined forces through the Collect Project, with ten high schools from six African countries – Cabo Verde, Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco – to combat plastic pollution in coastal environments.
