The municipalities of Paul, in Santo Antão, and Boa Vista are the highlights of the 7th edition of the Cape Verde Handicraft and Design Fair (Urdi) which runs until Sunday, December 4th in Mindelo, São Vicente. The event is an opportunity for these municipalities to present what best characterizes them in terms of material and immaterial culture.
The municipality of Paul participates in the fair with five artisans, with traditional products, such as São Paulo gastronomy, tinwork, lace, paintings and recycled materials.
On Thursday, there was a tasting session and today, Friday, there will be a performance by drummers and coladeira, as well as a musical concert with three of Paul’s voices: Ary Cueca, Zuzu and Arikiana.
Boa Vista style serenade, theater and Germano Almeida
The municipality of Boa Vista, on the other hand, takes seven artisans to Mindelo. These will all compete for the Djoy Soares Prize, created to honor the master craftsman, potter, defender and promoter of an idea of unity and sharing in the sector.
Today, Friday the 2nd, there will be a musical concert with a serenade “in the style of Boa Vista”, with artists from Boa Vista and residents of São Vicente, such as Kaka, Tio Lino and Yolanda and Voginha, at 20:30, in Praça New.
The program also includes the sketch “Vida dum cabrer”, with the theater group Nova Casa, which portrays the daily experiences and traditions of the people of Boa Vista, and, in literature, the writer Germano Almeida, will participate in the great conversations .
The 7th edition of the Cape Verde Handicrafts and Design Fair takes place in Praça Nova do Mindelo until Sunday, December 4th under the theme “Oral Tradition, Intangible Culture” with the participation of 114 artisans from all over the country.
