Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Lusophone University of Cape Verde (ULCV), FICASE, and the Ministry of Education signed a cooperation agreement this Wednesday in Mindelo, aimed at strengthening the training of more than one hundred early childhood educators.
The signing ceremony took place at the ULCV, which was represented by administrator Filomena Martins, and the Ministry of Education, represented by both the Director-General of Planning, Budget, and Management (DGPOG), Wilson Moreno, and the president of the Cape Verdean Foundation for School Social Action (FICASE), Adilson Freire.
According to Filomena Martins, the agreement aims to achieve several objectives, including providing initial training for those who lack it, while simultaneously accepting early childhood educators who already have some training and need additional training, as they graduate with a bachelor’s degree.
“The protocol is interesting because, in addition to training early childhood educators, they will also be trained to produce the teaching and pedagogical materials necessary for their work,” the same source explained.
The administrator assured that the course will follow a set of methodological, didactic, and psychopedagogical practices that are “extremely innovative and highly scientific.”
These practices, she added, are internationally recommended and based on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).
Filomena Martins said that registration is underway and there are already over 100 applications from prospective students, who will pay only 40 percent of the tuition fees, with the remaining 60% covered by FICASE.
FICASE president Adilson Freire confirmed that he will do everything possible to ensure the success of this agreement, as investing in early childhood educator training is “a sure bet for improving the quality of education in Cape Verde.”
On behalf of the DGPOG, Wilson Moreno explained that a set of protocols signed with universities within the Support Program for Priority Reform of the Preschool Sector (PAREP-CV) is being followed, which focuses on training, inclusive education, access, and institutional strengthening.
