Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Praia, Francisco Carvalho, asked, this Saturday, for an “in-depth analysis” of the issue of insecurity, based on statistics, and indicated that the municipality has focused on prevention to face the situation that has been experienced in Praia.
“I think the best approach that should be taken in relation to this issue of insecurity should be through data analysis. We have to speak with our eyes on the data because it is a sensitive matter and there are different, divergent and even contrary opinions and sensitivities”, he said, when asked to comment on the cases recently recorded and the debate that has been held around the issue of insecurity in Praia. .
Francisco Carvalho maintained that it is necessary to see what types of confrontations, what types of crimes and what has been the evolution in time and space and the evolution of the situation, instead of analyzing based on opinions and subjectivities, which, in perspective, may even contribute to further worsening the situation.

The mayor of Praia recognizes that the situation is not good and said that the municipality is already taking measures to contribute to a better social environment and a climate of peace in the city of Praia.
“We are looking to act on prevention. We understand that this must be the case, because the issue of violence, criminality and insecurity must be faced with a commitment to prevention. And in the bets we made with the community associations, we asked for counterparts”, he said, referring to the signed protocols.
As he indicated, one of these counterparts is in the sense that they signal and identify young people at risk in the neighborhoods and then allow the Chamber to have some kind of intervention with these young people.
“So it’s acting in training, directing them to training, to activities in associations and to healthy alternative activities. We also have an ongoing program for community development agents, who have several attributions within the localities and communities, one being specific in relation to this concern of contributing to the construction of peace and an environment of security and tranquility”, he said. .
The idea, according to Francisco Carvalho, is to work together so that the associations can make the greatest possible contribution to the prevention of cases of violence and crime.
In the city of Praia, in a space of just over 24 hours, two young people were murdered. The first case took place on May 5, around 1:00 pm, in which a young man in his 20s died after being shot, in the Achada Grande Trás neighborhood.
Another case took place on the 6th, in Achada Grande Frente, where a 33-year-old man was stabbed to death following a robbery, and could not resist his injuries.
