Soca Urges Stronger Dialogue on Creative Industries

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verdean Society of Authors (SOCA) expressed the need to strengthen institutional dialogue with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries as fundamental for the growth and consolidation of creative industries.

Daniel Spínola was speaking at a press conference about SOCA’s 21st anniversary, which includes a series of cultural activities, including tributes to artists, shows, and the awarding of royalties.

According to the same source, there is already a “good dialogue” with the ministry; however, he argued that the articulation should be “more permanent and constant,” considering that both institutions work with the common objective of promoting culture and valuing national creators.

According to him, one of SOCA’s main contributions to the cultural sector is the distribution of royalties, a measure that, as he explained, encourages authors and artists to continue the process of artistic creation and production.

“When authors and artists are compensated and feel rewarded for their work, they want to produce more because they know they will be paid for the work they create,” he said, adding that this mechanism directly contributes to strengthening the creative industries in Cape Verde.

The president also indicated that the institution has invited the Minister of Culture to participate in some activities promoted by Soca, reiterating the importance of a more regular presence and continuous institutional dialogue.

“We want to continue this dialogue because we are fundamentally working along the same lines, which is to exalt, to praise, and to create culture,” he explained.
