Teachers: Sindprof begins indefinite strike

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sindprof) began a strike today, the 27th, for an indefinite period, due to lack of agreement with the Ministry of Education on the demands linked to the salary increase.

Sindprof, according to Lígia Herbert in statements to Inforpress, presented a proposal requesting a salary increase from 78,678 escudos to 107,471 escudos in base salary, which was not accepted at the last meeting with the Ministry of Education and Directorate-General for Labor.

According to the union leader, the strike, for an indefinite period, aims to make the Ministry of Education respect the class and resolve the teacher’s problem, from changing levels to salary updates.

Teachers also ask for the completion of reclassifications, automatic promotion, regularization of the granting of subsidies for non-reduction in workload until 2024, improvement of the careers of masters, doctors and university professors, regularization of the careers of kindergarten teachers, regularization of the process transition of teachers and revision of the Teaching Staff Career Statute.

Students are currently on holiday for the Christmas and New Year period, with the start of classes scheduled for January 3, 2023.
