Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Boa Vista City Council handed over, this Friday, in Sal Rei, three reinhabited houses, as part of a project whose implementation also involved the participation of the beneficiary families. Five thousand contos is the amount made available by this municipality so that these three families could spend Christmas in new homes with decent conditions.
One of the rehabilitated houses, worth 2600 contos, was handed over to the resident Aldina Rodrigues, who lives on Rua de Santa Bárbara. Maria Semedo and Jandira Silva, both residents of the Boa Esperança neighbourhood, received another two houses in the amounts of 2000 and 1800 contos, respectively.
Speaking to the media, the mayor of Boa Vista, Cláudio Mendonça, explained that this project arose within the scope of the process of electrical energy connections on the island where, following the inspections carried out to the residences, it was found that more of a hundred of them did not have conditions in their structures to receive the respective electrical connections.
Hence, as the mayor explained, given the number of requests and complaints, it was necessary to carry out “deep interventions” and other partial ones so that people could have electricity in their homes.
Participation of the City Council and families
Claúdio Mendonça highlighted that, sometimes, some houses lacked a roof, while others needed concrete and internal repairs that were carried out through the financial contribution of the families and the City Council, whose amount of financing, in each case, does not exceed the 1500 contos.
For the mayor, the most important thing is not the monetary value invested, but the emotion and joy of people who now have decent housing and, in this way, enjoy a constitutional right that every politician must contribute to materialize.
Mendonça announced that this project, which started in the Boa Esperança neighbourhood, will continue in other towns, namely in Bofareira, where he said there were construction projects underway. In Povoação Velha, on the other hand, the construction of two houses will begin “soon”.
