Africa-Press – Cape verde. A group of young people from the American organization Humanitarian Experience (HXP) is building two classrooms and a physical education floor at the Salamansa Compulsory Basic Education School, in São Vicente. The project should be completed in the first week of August.
According to Dirce Sequeira, the organization’s focal point in Cape Verde, the young people are divided into five groups, with each group staying in the country for two weeks.
“We started the project in the first week of June and will finish it in the first week of August. It is financed by young people and they participate in the construction, under the guidance of professionals ”, he explained, in statements to A Nação.
At the moment, according to the same source, a group of young people, aged between 14 and 19, is working on the construction of classrooms and the paved field, between 9 am and 3:30 pm, from Monday to Friday. .
However, this is not the first time that the humanitarian organization has intervened in São Vicente.
In recent years, it has carried out the construction of five residences for mothers who are heads of needy families, dormitories in the SOS village for young people, classrooms at the EBO school in Chã de Marinha and a nursery/kindergarten in Chã de Marinha.
HXP is a non-profit organization based in Utah, United States of America, that sends young people to various countries to work on community building projects.
Young people work part-time jobs to save money and pay for all their travel expenses, in addition to funding construction projects.
The ongoing construction in São Vicente is being carried out in partnership with the City Council.
