Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verdean Association for the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence, Vicenta Fernandes, was named a Global Ambassador for Peace by the World Federation of Women for Peace, in recognition of her dedication to gender equality and the promotion of peace.
The distinction, according to a press release from the Cape Verdean Association for the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence (ACLCVBG), was announced during the 22nd Annual Women’s Leadership Conference of the WFWP, held in Tirana, Albania, at the end of October.
During the conference, the same source highlighted, several women were honored for their active contribution to the promotion of peace, development, and women’s empowerment.
“Cape Verde was represented by Vicenta Fernandes, whose work has been remarkable both nationally and internationally, through partnerships with women leaders from Europe and Africa, in favor of peace, gender equality, and the strengthening of women’s capabilities,” it emphasized.
The nomination was made on behalf of the Federation’s co-founders, Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han Moon, who highlighted Vicenta Fernandes’ “exemplary path” in defending women’s rights, preventing gender-based violence, and building bridges for social reconciliation.
In 2024, Vicenta Fernandes was also recognized as one of the 20 Inspiring Women of the Year, a distinction that, according to the ACLCVBG, reinforces the impact of her work and the public recognition of her contribution to a more just, inclusive, and peaceful society.
Under the motto “Paths to Peace and Development through Women’s Initiatives,” the event brought together more than 125 participants from various countries, including authorities, academics, and civil society leaders, to reflect on themes such as ethical leadership, interfaith dialogue, technological innovation, and holistic well-being.
The meeting concluded with a message of hope and a collective commitment to strengthening regional and international collaborations, transforming ideas into concrete actions.
The Women’s Federation for World Peace is an international organization with consultative status at the United Nations that promotes mutual understanding, cooperation among peoples, and the empowerment of women, aligning itself with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the principles of a culture of peace.
