Africa-Press – Cape verde. “Weaving words in the silence of days” is the newest poetic work by the Cape Verdean writer and poet, Vera Duarte. The book, which has 100 poems written during the pandemic, will be released on the 28th of April in Lisbon and on the 25th of May in the city of Praia.

According to the writer, the book will be released for the first time in Lisbon, since it is in this Portuguese city that it is being published. However, it will have its launch later, on March 25, in Cape Verde, Praia.

This second release will be, according to Vera Duarte, in celebration of Africa Day, as “Weaving words in the silence of days” “reflects very much the difficult situation” in Africa and in the world caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

“During the covid-19 pandemic I wrote a lot of poetry, that’s why I say that poetry is, let’s say, a salvation because it is in the moments when a lot of bad things happen around you that many times those who like, for example, to write poetry go back to himself (…) and it is a way to live the difficult times much better”, he said, quoted by Inforpress.

Considering isolation in the pandemic an “extremely deep” period for her, the writer advanced that, at this time, she wrote novels and short stories, in addition to poetry.

As a result of this “season”, the poetic work “Weaving words in the silence of days” is composed of 100 poems chosen by Vera Duarte, among the poems she wrote between June 2020 and June 2021.

Poetry in hard times

“It is a year that allowed me to make catharsis through poetry, due to all the difficult situations we experienced during that first period of isolation, the deaths that occurred, many went through difficulties in various areas of life, problems that shook the world and I am very adept at a thought of the philosopher Guetter, who says that if your pain hurts you too much, make a poem of it”, she underlined.

On World Poetry Day celebrated yesterday, Monday, 21, Vera Duarte revealed that when she lives or the world experiences greater difficulty, turbulent moments that end up reflecting on everyone, as in this difficult and uncertain time because of the pandemic and invasion Russian language in Ukraine, through poetry you can do catharsis that allows you to move on.

The presentation of his latest work, on the 28th of April, will be in charge of the professor at the University of Rio de Janeiro Carmem Ribeiro Seco and the Portuguese professor and jurist Boaventura de Sousa Santos.
