Africa-Press – Eritrea. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Tanzania ahead of the official opening of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), PAMOJA 2024.
Dr. Motsepe’s presence marks the beginning of what promises to be a historic edition of CHAN, being hosted for the first time across three East African nations – Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda – from August 2 to 30.
Touching down in Dar es Salaam, the CAF President was warmly received by officials of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), government representatives, and CHAN 2024 local organizing committee members. His visit underscores CAF’s commitment to the continued growth and development of African football, particularly at the national team level.
The opening ceremony will take place at the iconic Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, where co-hosts Tanzania will face Burkina Faso in the tournament’s first match. Speaking ahead of the event, Dr. Motsepe praised the collaborative spirit behind PAMOJA 2024.
“This tournament is a celebration of African unity and football excellence. Hosting CHAN across three countries is a bold and historic step” he said.
PAMOJA 2024 – named after the Swahili word for “together” – will bring together 16 of the continent’s top national teams comprised exclusively of home-based players. It is not only a showcase of talent but also a platform for emerging stars to shine on the continental stage.
As the tournament kicks off, all eyes will be on East Africa as it delivers a milestone event in the annals of African football.
