Africa-Press – Eritrea. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) fired Désiré Noumandiez Doué, its director of refereeing, following the unfavourable reactions to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, in which Nigeria won the title for the tenth time.
Following an official objection filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which claimed “critical officiating errors” during the thrilling final in Rabat, Doué was let go.
After the Atlas Lionesses wasted a two-goal lead, Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3–2.
Doué was held accountable for referee appointments even though he did not officiate the game himself.
The FRMF submitted a video dossier to CAF, highlighting multiple controversial decisions that, in their opinion, unfairly shaped the outcome of the match.
Namibia’s Antsino Twanyanyukwa officiated the final with assistance from Rwanda and Senegal, and Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga oversaw the VAR.
The controversy started when Morocco was denied what they thought was a clear penalty and were incensed by what they called a “soft” penalty awarded to the Super Falcons.
