Africa-Press – Eswatini. The country’s CAF interclub competitions’ envoys Royal Leopard and Mbabane Highlanders have learnt their fate following yesterday’s draw conducted in Cairo, Egypt.

MTN Premier League champions Leopard will face Centre de Formation De Football Andoharanofotsy, simply known as CFFA from Madagascar in the premier TotalEnergies CAF Champions League while Highlanders have been handed a tricky draw against South Africa’s Royal AM.

The first leg of the first preliminary round batch of matches is scheduled for the weekend of September 9-11 with the second leg games a week later between September 16 and 18.

Leopard will start away, making the short flight across the Indian Ocean to Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar while Highlanders will start at home, likely the Mbombela Stadium as revealed by the club’s management.

It is the second time in history that a local side is pitted against one from Madagascar after Highlanders in the 2011 CAF Confederation Cup.

Royal AM is based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and plays in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). They play in the DStv Premiership after purchasing the status of Bloemfontein Celtic in August 2021 by Durban businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize and her son Andile Mpisane. The club uses Chatsworth Stadium for its home games.

Wydad Athletic Club are the reigning TotalEnergies CAF Champions League champions. Another Moroccan club, RS Berkane are the defending champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, having won the trophy twice in three years.
