Africa-Press – Eswatini. The launch of the much-anticipated MoMo Cup knockout tournament sponsored to the tune of E2 million by MTN Fin Tech, is undoubtedly good music to the ears of local football followers.

This new tournament was officially announced yesterday morning at Mahlalekhukhwini House and attended by MTN Fin Tech Chief Executive Officer Sam Shongwe , staff, PLE executive and supporters, among others.

The format will see 25 clubs from the premier league and national first division participate in a voting exercise on the MoMo system to qualify for the tournament’s semi-finals play-offs. Voting starts today and will close on September 30. Each vote costs E2.

It was confirmed that the tournament would begin with semi-finals play-offs on October 8 with the finals billed for October 30. The champions will take home a mouth-watering E600 000 with the runners-up smiling all the way to the bank to cash E350 000.

MTN Fin Tech’s Chief Executive Officer Sam Shongwe confirmed that the sponsorship would be spread over three years.

“Ladies and gentleman it gives us a great pleasure to unveil the Momo Cup in partnership with the PLE who shall govern the playing structure of the tournament. This year MTN Fin Tech is investing a total of E2 million towards the MoMo Cup partnership, which we hope will go beyond the three years.

We will announce each year’s package in the relevant year based on our discussions with the PLE. With this partnership our position is that MTN Fin Tech is for the people of Eswatini and we will not tire in our quest of identifying additional partnership,” Shongwe said.
