Africa-Press – Eswatini. MBABANE Highlanders raked in over E300 000 from gate collections during their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Royal AM at the Somhlolo National Stadium on Sunday.
The team sold about 6 500 tickets, collecting a gross total of E325 000 in the preliminary round tie of the continent’s second premier club competition which ended in a goalless draw.
The match was also watched by dignitaries, including Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, Eswatini Football Association President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane and Premier League of Eswatini Chairman Mark Carmichael, to mention a few.
Highlanders Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe confirmed the number of tickets sold during the match. “ We sold over 6 500 tickets during the match and we would like to thank the nation for coming out in numbers to support us.
“We will now shift our focus to the return leg on Friday where we will do our level best to hoist the country’s flag,” he said.
The team is expected to leave the country tomorrow morning for the return leg slated for the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Meanwhile, the team’s national supporters committee announced a transport fee of E500 for supporters who would love to accompany the team to Durban for the return leg.
The black and white ensemble will at least need to atleast pull off a 1-0 win in order to advance to the next round of the Total Energies sponsored interclub competition. The team last competed in the tournament over 10 years ago.
