SA FASHION GURU GIGABA INVITES LOCAL DESIGNERS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Local designers have been invited by South African fashion expert Lindiwe Gigaba to register under a platform set to help SADC designers. Gigaba is a fashion designer and founder of Africa Fashion Alive.

She recently visited Eswatini and attended this year’s fashion week. According to Gigaba, the platform would grow with designers’ participation from various countries and be one of the greatest fashion week in African event calendar, which would not only benefit the participants but the tourism of Eswatini.

Skill She said this would contribute to skill development, social cohesion, job creation and keeping arts alive in the region. Gigaba has been nominated as the only fashion designer to represent South Africa at two platforms selected from hundreds of applications sent by fashion designers throughout the country.

Gigaba said she was looking at grouping 15 designers and additional visual artists and crafters to participate at the mentorship programmes, which would include training in fabric design and arts, .holistic approach of fashion working with models and fashion photographers.

Listed “With camps at which fashion designers and all sector listed will time to time share ideas, where selected participants will be from the SADC region and other regions of Africa,” she said. She said she would start in February 2023 by showcasing in Italy.

“What is more amazing is that three countries were running the nominations at which I nailed two, which is a milestone,” she said.

She has launched the platform for designers to showcase from various countries which was called AFA Fashion Meets Arts Collaborations 2023 which would be in March 4 in 2023.

These platforms would also help her screen designers as the transit gateway to international platforms and opportunities for some to be mentored as well as to benefit in marketing platforms which includes the Africa Fashion Alive boutique to be launched in less than four months now. “For multibrands which is fashion clothing, leather works, crafts and visual arts to display their products at the malls,” she said.
