Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) has opened the application process for the Olympics Solidarity Athletes Scholarship programme.

This was revealed by EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele during the EOGCA Athletes Commission Forum that was held at The George Hotel yesterday.

He said this Jele said the athlete should apply as soon as possible as they begin their preparations for qualify to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “

As an association we have opened the application process for the Olympics Solidarity Athletes Scholarship. We will look at the athlete’s history and his/her performance as well as if the application is endorsed by the athlete’s association. We encourage all athletes to apply for the scholarship with Paris 2024 preparations to begin soon,” he said.

The association has already handed over scholarships to six athlete earlier this year namely sprinters Sibusiso ‘Swazi bolt’ Matsenjwa and Bongiwe Mahlalela, swimmers Hayley Hoy and Simanga Dlamini, taekwondo artist Carlota Munave as well as boxer Thabiso Dlamini.

The scholarship is aimed at affording high performing athletes the best possible opportunity to train and compete in their fields for a four-year period.

Coming to the forum, Jele said this was their first meeting and such forums were very important because athletes were given updates on upcoming competitions and they also learn on how to prepare for them. Meanwhile, Athletes Commission Chairman ‘Swazi bolt’ Matsenjwa said they were happy to attend the meeting and they got to learn a lot.
