Africa-Press – Eswatini. After the postponement of the Hhohho Regional Football Association’s (HRFA) AGM a fortnight ago, astute football administrator Comfort Shongwe has bounced back as the HRFA chairman after winning the elections with 144 votes.
The elections were conducted at Mhlatane High School hall in Pigg’s Peak yesterday.
Shongwe was in a highly-contested election with Nigel Shongwe, who was the chairman in the outgoing executive, where he got 104 votes.
Nkosingiphile Shongwe retained his secretary position after joining the race unopposed, while Ntokozo Tsela is also back in his position of vice secretary after attaining 155 votes.
Linda Mnisi also won the treasurer position while Mduduzi Dlamini was is a member.
Donald Nkonyane assumed the deputy chaimanship, while Oscar Mlotshwa got the member position.
The election results were announced by Ethics Committee Chairman Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini, who further confirmed that 257 delegates participated in the elections before congratulating the eventual winners.
Shongwe said he was happy to have bounced back to the position.
“I am humbled by the Hhohho football family for seeing it fit to vote for me and allow me to lead them yet are again. It would be unfair for me not to thank the outgoing executive for working hard after the COVID -19 pandemic. the image of the association is clean and they have developed drastically.
We still need them, there’s nothing personal, the aim is to take the sport forward. I would also like to thank the football mother body, EFA for successfully conducting the elections,” he said.
Shongwe is not new to the football echelons of power as he was once the acting Eswatini Football Association president after leading the same Hhohho Regional Football Association.
The victory further means Shongwe will sit in the EFA Executive Committee.
