Africa-Press – Eswatini. The relationship Eswatini has with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will help the country increase its electricity production capacity.
This was said by His Majesty King Mswati III during a press conference at Ludzidzini Royal Residence in the early hours of Tuesday. This was during a briefing on his official trip to UAE, Republic of China (Taiwan) and South Africa.
The King said the UAE was one of the countries that had performed exceptionally well in electricity production, through natural gas.
He said the UAE flourished through tourism, ICT, manufacturing and other sectors.
The king said in the UAE there was a company that was engaged by its government to study how businesses were conducted in other countries.
This activity was done so that some of the models emulated in other countries could be used to do business in the UAE.
Natural gas is the main source of power in the UAE. However, the UAE is currently transitioning from an electricity generation system of nearly 100 per cent powered by gas power plants (2010) to 100 per cent powered by nuclear, solar and other renewables in order to substantially reduce its carbon emissions. It is also rolling out electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The king revealed that he further visited the Republic of China (Taiwan), where he was warmly welcomed by Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen, who listened to what the Eswatini delegation, led by the king had to say.
The president, according to the king, came up with a bilateral programme, which was meant to help Eswatini coin other ways of helping Eswatini do business with Taiwan. The king said there were many companies that wanted to invest in Eswatini and one of them was a drone-making company.
The company, according to the king, wanted to set up a factory with an investment of not less than E400 million. He said the drones would help in farming, transportation and other sectors. He also said there was another company that wished to assist in constructing the strategic oil reserve facility.
He said the Taiwanese also promised to fork out about E1 billion for infrastructure development where they promised to construct and manage the strategic oil reserve facility.
He said there were many companies from the ICT sector that wished to invest in the country, through the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP). His Majesty said Taiwan was strong in the ICT and tourism sectors, which he said could be helpful for Eswatini.
After visiting Taiwan, the king returned to the UAE, this time Dubai, as he had earlier visited Abu Dhabi.
His Majesty the King said Dubai produced crude oil together with Abu Dhabi, and that would be helpful, as the country was about to have the strategic oil reserve.
Towards the end of his official working trip, the king visited South Africa to be a guest at the coronation of Zulu nation’s leader, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini held at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
His Majesty said the event was a huge success, noting that culture and traditions of the Zulu nation would be revived now that they had a king. The king said even in South Africa, they also met business people for further opportunities for investments.
