R44million Maize Production Fund launched by Agriculture Minister to enhance food security in eSwatini

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Samson Sithole,the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise(ESWADE) says the R44million Maize Production Fund seeks to enhance food security in this tiny Kingdom of eSwatini.

Speaking to the press current affairs program on Monday, the CEO said maize farmers have demonstrated excitement over the establishment of fund.

“Maize farmers have demonstrated excitement over this fund, and we urge more farmers with five(5) or more hectors of land to apply with ESWADE. Farmers who are already benefiting are able to sell their maize to the National Maize Corporation(NMC), the money sourced from the fund is deducted and paid to ESWADE and the farmer gets the profit,” said the CEO.

On Monday, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Jabulani Mabuza officially launched the R44million Maize Production Fund.

Eswatini currently relies heavily,on South Africa for food production, the ESWADE CEO said such funds seeks to ensure that the country eventually becomes self-sustainable when it comes to food security.
