Africa-Press – Eswatini. Journalist Colani Khulekani Maseko, the former President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) won the first prize in a Journalists Writers Competition.
This was during a Journalism Workshop on Freedom of Expression organized by the Campaign for Free Expression in collaboration with the United Nations(UN), the Canadian Embassy and the Co-ordinating Assembly of Non Governmental Organizations(CANGO).
The two days workshop held at The George Hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday, was meant to train journalists on ‘fair’ and accurate reporting during the coming Parliamentary elections.
Maseko beat other writers in Times of eSwatini columnist Nomsa Mbuli who came third and Bheka Mabuza who was the second winner.
Speaking after being declared a winner, the journalist said he was grateful to be declared a winner.
“I am new and learning a lot from the editor when it comes to writing. This is the beginning, I am yet to shine under press, my secret is that I am willing to learn and listen when the editor corrects me. Lastly, I am grateful for this opportunity that enables me to shine,”he said.
Maseko was leading the most ever vibrant Executive Commitee of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS), he then secured employment with this publication but continues to further his studies with Southern African Nazarene University(SANU).
On another note, editor Zweli Martin Dlamini congratulated Maseko for winning the first prize.
“He is one of the most brilliant journalists I have worked with.When you correct him on how to write articles,he humbles himself and listen.Thereafter,he will produce the best, his secret is that he listen very careful when corrected,” said the editor.
