Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has directed members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) to discharge their duties of maintaining peace and harmony with honesty and integrity.

His Majesty applauded the work done by the police who constantly put their lives on the line while on duty. He urged police recruits to learn from those ahead of them while assuring them of government and the nation’s support in providing them with the necessary tools in order to diligently execute their duties.

The King said it was an honour to celebrate the 2023, Police Day as well as the passing out parade of the latest group of police recruits at the Matsapha Police Academy on Friday.

He took the opportunity to extend a vote of thanks to all the commissioners from regional countries as well as those who travelled from overseas to be part of and celebrate the momentous event.

The King said it was a blessing that on the day of their visitation to the academy, the almighty God had also come to visit the police as witnessed by the rain which was pouring throughout the day.

“You are indeed blessed by the Lord and I am glad to note that even though the heavens are upon us today, you have embraced the cold weather and performed all the drills that you have been practising immaculately despite the rain and freezing cold. That shows your commitment and dedication to the path you have taken,” said the King.

He said the day was a great initiation for the recruits, adding that the weather was an example of the challenges that they would face when discharging their duties. He said a police officer should indeed be prepared to face and overcome all kinds of challenges as witnessed on the day.

The King pointed out that the graduation of the recruits was the first step as they would now be discharged to their various posts, where they would yet again learn from those who were senior and have learnt and done the work before them.

He challenged the recruits to learn from their superiors and do their job diligently as police officers. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that the training they have received was put into practice during their service.

He said the duties bestowed upon them as police officers were delicate and occasionally brought about dangerous situations, which could cost them their lives.

Important

He said it was, therefore, important that as they discharged their duties, they do so with sobriety and readiness as well as alertness of mind to enable them to put into practice what they have learnt at the academy as they do their work on the field.

He warned the recruits that as they are posted to their various stations, they would be working with and for the people who would not readily know that they were new in the force hence the need to ensure that they served the nation diligently.

“You must acknowledge that you are working with the nation and when the people see a police officer in uniform, they do not know that you may be new in the force so while executing your duties, make sure you represent the police force well,” said the King.

He said the nation expected all police officers, whether new or not, to execute their duties as seasoned police officers. He urged the new recruits to be exemplary in the execution of their duties in their various stations. He emphasised on the need to execute their duties with honesty and integrity, pointing out that one police officer’s mistake would be a disgrace to the entire police force.

“It is important for you all to know your role and that any mistake from one of you will bring disrepute to all of you,” he said.

The King emphasised that the as police officers, they were not expected to be dishonest and they must always keep in mind that they were expected to discharge their duties with honesty and integrity at all times.

He reminded that recruits that their main duty was to ensure peace and harmony in the country and to bring to book all those who break the law.

He further advised the police and recruits to capacitate themselves so they are well placed to deal with new forms of crime such as cyber crime.
