Africa-Press – Eswatini. CAPITAL city giants Mbabane Highlanders and hub giants Manzini Wanderers have promised their fans fireworks ahead of today’s Bible Society Cup.

The competition will be played at Mavuso Sports Centre, and it will be the fifth edition of the seasons curtain raiser tournament.

Highlanders, who are defending champions of the tournament, said this was a tournament they took seriously and one they used to benchmark their readiness for the new season, said the team’s Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini. He made the comments during the Bible Society Cup trophy parade held at Manzini Millennium Park yesterday, which was attended by different supporters.

“This is a very serious game for us, one which we won’t take lightly as we have been preparing hard for it. We are also going to be parading new players, but I cannot reveal names at the moment, so we urge our supporters to show up to see them.

This is the first tournament of the season, so we want to defend the title and make sure we start the season on a high note,” he said.

Manzini Wanderers mouthpiece ‘Mr. Ginindza’ said they wanted to take home the cup to continue their dominance in the tournament, having won it twice already. He added that the tournament would be a great way to assess their new signings, who have been in pre-season training for weeks now.

“This is a good way to gauge our squad going into the new season. We will also be fielding our new signings and we hope they can help us get our third title.

‘‘We would like to thank the sponsor for giving us a chance to play in such a prestigious tournament and urge our supporters to come cheer the team on,” he said.

Meanwhile, the other two teams have said they should not be counted out, with many not expecting them to cause an upset.

Moneni Pirates PRO Sibusiso Nkambule said they were in it to win their maiden trophy as he cautioned the other clubs that they were coming to the tournament to cause some big upsets.

“I know we are not being counted, but we will shock a lot of people.

We have new players and by now you should know that we don’t have big name stars, we just develop youngsters and they will definitely be out there to impress and show what they are made of,” said Nkambule.

Denver Sundowns CEO Elvis Dube also shared the same sentiments with his Moneni Pirates counterpart, with the ‘Kappa Boys’ wanting to etch their names in the cup’s history as well.

The first match will be played at 9am and will have a hub derby with Manzini Wanderers playing against Denver Sundowns and will be followed by defending champions Mbabane Highlanders facing Moneni Pirates at 11am. The final will be played at 3pm.
