Africa-Press – Eswatini. Clubs have requested Eswatini Football Association (EFA) to ask at least E10 million grant from CAF to assist in club licensing.
The request was tabled by Tambankulu Callies.

This is as per the minutes of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Special General Meeting held on July 29, 2023, at Sigwaca House in Mbabane.

The teams felt the Confederation of African Football (CAF) club licencing exercise was expensive for them. “A resolution should be taken to approach EFA to request a E10 million grant to clubs from CAF so to assist them in meeting the set standards,” read the minutes.

Distributed

The E10 million grant is to be distributed among all 28 teams that are affiliates of the PLE. Worth noting is that some of the CAF club licencing requirements suggest that clubs should have a juniors and women team in order to qualify to be given a licence. This causes an increase in clubs expenditure as there are added salaries or wages, among other things. Clubs are also evaluated based on infrastructural, administrative, legal and financial criteria.

Meanwhile, abroad clubs, such as FC Mornar and OFK Petrovac from Montenegro, were not granted licencing due to failure to meet financial requirements, which led to forfeiting a chance to compete in European clubs tournaments. Hence, the trio did not qualify to stand for UEFA Champions League, which will start in qualifiers.

Criteria

They were also denied a licence for 2023/24 season for not meeting the criteria. When asked if EFA was aware of the request, EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said there was no formal communication regarding same.

“EFA is not aware of the approach clubs resolved to take,” Radebe said.
