Africa-Press – Eswatini. POLICE side, Royal Leopard have finally beaten Mbabane Swallows to a player they really wanted for next season!

The two teams had both shown an interest in former Tambuti FC impressive striker Banele ‘Neymar’ Shongwe, with the player star choosing Ingwe Mabalabala.

‘Neymar,’ as the player is fondly known appeared for the capital city giants in one of their international friendly matches where he scored two goals.

The two teams have been battling for the signature of the player, who scored eight goals in the previous season.

Latest news indicate that the striker has penned a three-year contract with the police side.

Mbabane Highlanders were also in talks with the player but the deal did not materialise.

Royal Leopard Chief Executive Officer, Frank Hurube confirmed the news.

“As Royal Leopard, we are pleased to announce the signing of Banele Shongwe ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The striker has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and I can safely say that he is now our player,” said Hurube.

He thanked Tambuti for their professionalism throughout the negotiations.

“We welcome the player in our camp and we hope that he will add more value in the team,” he said.

Hurube said the players were hard at training in preparation for the new season.

“We will be ready for the start of the new season.”

He said they were also playing a number of friendly games to make sure the players were in good shape.

“We might add more new players but that will all depend on the coaches.”

Hurube also said they wanted to compete in all competitions next season.

“We want to have a balanced that will fight for trophies in the new season. I am happy with the spirit at the camp as the players look sharp and ready for the upcoming season.”

The longest serving CEO added that they had recalled all their players, who were on loan as they were on a mission to turn things around this season.

‘Neymar’ has spent two seasons with Tambuti, having joined them from Distillers FC.

Known for his flair and hunger for goal, ‘Neymar’ will be the main man for Leopard upfront.

He has already linked- up with his new team-mates at training.

Leopard will start the new season with a match against Tambuti.
