Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III is looking forward to see more Japanese tourists visiting the country and business people exploring investment opportunities.

He said this would encourage the nation to look at how Japan and Eswatini could exchange goods and services between the two countries as there was a need to promote trade. The King made this known while receiving credentials from Japan Ambassador to Eswatini Ushio Shigeru presented at Lozitha Palace yesterday.

His Majesty mentioned that both countries have agreed, on a number of times, that there was a need to increase trade after studying the trade sectors that need to be explored in their co friendship.

He said the country had established a relationship of many years now and that, with the appointment of the ambassador’s appointment, would continue to build the relationship that exists between them. The King also noted that the two countries had supported each other in a number of areas. He said Eswatini remained grateful that Japan has been there to give support in a number of areas in the rural areas, including infrastructure, education, health, agriculture and more.

He also stated that the Tokyo International Conference of African Development (TICAD), was a good platformwhere Japan was working with all African countries to ensure the goals they want to reach are achieved.

“We are hopeful thatwith your appointment, you will encourage a lot of Japanese tourists and business people to visit and invest in Eswatini. As you are all aware, the African Union 2063 Agenda is there to ensure that all Africans have better and improved lives in all sectors.

We are looking forward asAfricans to achieve this goal even before the year of target. “We are, of course, alive to thatwe need support and friends like Japan to support us as you are already a developed country. As a result, we don’t have to invent new wheels but share the ideas and experiences of how you have managed to be developed in areas such as hi-tech, infrastructure and other sectors,” he said. He further gave assurance thatEswatiniwould give the ambassador all the necessary support as he executes his work as an ambassador.

Meanwhile, Japan Ambassador Ushio Shigeru expressed His Majesty the Emperor’s best wishes and his desire to see further strengthening of cordial relations between the two countries. He noted that Japan and Eswatini had established close and cardinal relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971 and marked their 50th anniversary in 2021.

He said Japan was deeply committed to contributing to Eswatini’ s priorities areas such as education, health care, agriculture, food security and climate change through technical assistance, grant aid, and grant assistance for grassroots human security projects. The ambassador noted that last year, TICAD was held in Tunis and that the Prime Minister Kishida pledged a sum of over E510 billion (US$30 billion) in public and private investment in the areas of green investment, public health, human resource development, regional stabilisation and food security.

He further noted that Japanwould continue to work hard and deepen the partnership between both countries, focusing on people as individuals.

“I look forward to further promoting our bilateral relations and to continue contributing to the development of Eswatini, including the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of our two countries.

I wish to work closely together on global issues and challenges as well. “It is also a great honour to mention that this year marks the 30th anniversary for us to lead the TICAD process together with the African leaders,” he said.
