Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Deputy Prime Minister, Themba Masuku, yesterday left the country for the Africa Climate Summit.

The summit is to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 4 to 8 where Masuku will represent His Majesty King Mswati III.

The summit also doubles as the Africa Climate Week.

Organised in parallel with the African Climate Summit, Africa Climate Week would provide a platform for policymakers, practitioners, businesses and civil society to exchange on climate solutions, barriers to overcome and opportunities realised in different regions, leading to the first global stock-take concluding at COP28 in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December of this year.

According to organisers of the events, the Africa Climate Week would consider four major systems-based tracks with a view to providing region-focused contributions to inform the global stock-take on: energy systems and industry, cities, urban and rural settlements, infrastructure and transport, land, ocean, food and water, societies, health, livelihoods, and economies.

The inaugural Africa Climate Summit which was championed by Kenyan President, William Ruto, aims to address the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and particularly in Africa.

With the expectation of escalating climate crises in terms of frequency and intensity, urgent action is required to mitigate these challenges.

The organisers said the summit would serve as a platform to inform, frame, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.
