Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister, Cleopas Dlamini, said development in the country warrants the 55/55 Double Celebration.

“For the country this means we now have a long time of enjoying independence. It also means we now have a long time of opportunities to change wrongs into right,” the premier said yesterday.

This was during the press conference held at Cabinet where he wished Their Majesties a successful celebration.

The 55/55 Double Celebration will be commemorated on Wednesday September 6 in celebration of 55 years of independence and the 55th birthday of His Majesty King Mswati III.

He also said he wished His Majesty the King a happy birthday.

The King’s birthday is on April 19. “It is an honour for the nation of Eswatini to celebrate both events on the same day. My wish is to see more developments and all Emaswati enjoying peace and well-being. Halala Eswatini. Halala Mbube Yemhlaba. Lunwele loludze wena Waphakathi! Bayethe!,” the premier said.

The prime minister said over the past 55 years, there was development in many sectors.

Attained

He said in the education sector, the development has seen a number of primary and high schools as well as tertiary institutions.

“When we attained independence, the number of schools was very low. There was no university prompting that people had to study outside the country. But now we also have a number of colleges as well,” the Prime Minister said.

Dlamini said development was also witnessed in other sectors whereby there had been infrastructure development as well as the increased number of hospitals.

“We can pat ourselves on the back as Emaswatini. However, we cannot be complacent and say we have achieved. There is still a lot to be done and in the next 55 years, we ought to have doubled these achievements,” said the premier.

He said the double 55 years were milestones whereby the Kingdom of Eswatini had grown from strength to strength adding that he observed that there was a great transition of power after the death of King Sobhuza II to the time where His Majesty King Mswati III took over.

He added that such transition was not common in many African countries.
