Africa-Press – Eswatini. Nine-year-old Carter McKenzie was the biggest winner of the Maguga Dam Bass Challenge.
The Maguga Bass Challenge started on Saturday, where anglers cast their rods into the dam without worry of being limited in number. Eswatini Angling Association (EAA) President Derek Hopf was quoted saying that the number of anglers will not be that they were limited, unlike the Sandriver Dam. The competition started on Saturday and ended yesterday. It was the youngest angler Carter, who was the only one to pull out a bass weighing 2.93kg with Wynand Pagieter catching the second heavy bass which weighed 2.89kg.

The majority of the anglers pulled out fish weighing less than 2.5kg. Carter vividly expressed his excitement, when he pulled out the 2.93kg Bass out of the dam, especially because he had caught it on Saturday. The youngster went on to mention that it was nerve-wracking to wait another 24 hours to find out the verdict. “I caught the fish yesterday (Saturday) and it weighed 2.9kg, which made me very happy because it was the biggest catch of the day. I was very excited when I caught it and I was waiting to find out today (yesterday) if no other angler catches a bigger fish than mine,” Carter said.
Meanwhile, the president expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, who made the event possible. He thanked Tackle Cabin for availing all the lures availed as prizes, which were used to award the lucky draw winners. He also thanked United Holdings for the E100 000 insurance policy as well as the Mananga Country Lodge and Maguga Lodge for the two nights vouchers, which were on offer for lucky anglers.
