Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Elections and Boundaries Commission Chairperson, Prince Mhlabuhlangene yesterday officially announced the results for the 2023 General Elections.
The chairperson clarified that the elections in the country were only to legitimise government and not the monarchy.
Mhlabuhlangene urged those elected to remain loyal to their communities.
According to the chairperson, the results showed an improvement in terms of women representation in Parliament as eight were elected to be MPs.
He further stated that the results would be gazetted and thereafter would be the official results.
He thanked Emaswati for what he called peaceful elections.
The chairperson further disclosed that there were four ties where EBC would then hold by-elections.
Prince Mhlabuhlangene said the anticipation was that the by-elections would be done this week because the law prescribed that they be done with immediate effect.
He said from their knowledge, only the two who constituted the tie would compete against each other.

With regards to the App, which EBC used to issue results, the chairperson said the whole pursuit was to be transparent.
He said the other dimension of its benefit was the almost real time presentation of results and noted that it was not a fully complete automated process, so obviously there would be a lag between input and output.
“We will obviously improve with time,” Prince Mhlabuhlangene stated. He appreciated the eight women who have been elected and said if the threshold was not met then the EBC would trigger the process of electing four more women to fill in the positions of women MPs.
He further disclosed that they had a five year strategy, which would give a more detailed of EBC’s milestones and focus on the future.
