Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Botswana Police Service (BPS) is hosting a delegation from the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) currently undertaking a bench-marking exercise on the BPS Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
Welcoming the delegation at Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) offices in Gaborone yesterday (20/04/2026), Deputy Director Crime Investigation Department (CID), responsible for CRB, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Collins Monnamorwa, said ABIS has become an essential tool in today’s law enforcement landscape. He said in an era where crime is increasingly sophisticated and often transnational, the ability to accurately identify individuals through biometric data such as fingerprints and facial recognition is invaluable.
Assistant Commissioner Monnamorwa said ABIS enhances the speed, accuracy, and reliability of criminal identification, thereby improving investigations, supporting prosecutions, and ultimately contributing to safer communities.
Giving reciprocal remarks, Director of Finance, Procurement and Logistics, Assistant Commissioner Julius Lukhele of REPS said they recognise that modern policing demands continuous transformation, and it is through engagements such as this that they are able to sharpen their capabilities and embrace innovative solutions. He further commended BPS for the successful operation of the ABIS so far.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the two police organisations to exchange knowledge, best practices and operational insights in biometric policing technologies. The visit also reflects a shared commitment to regional cooperation in enhancing law enforcement and strengthen capacity in criminal identification and data management.
