Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane Highlanders have completed the signing of Former Mbabane Swallows attacking midfielder Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze after lengthy discussions between the two parties that lasted until yesterday afternoon.
On what was a frantic day for most clubs with the registration deadline looming, the black and white outfit managed to beat Royal Leopard and surprise bidders Illovo FC for the signature of the talented player.
Registration
As reported by this publication earlier, Swallows demanded E80 000 for the player and Highlanders matched the asking price to land what was their marquee signing of the registration window.
The signing of the player puts to bed a transfer saga which started with the player handing in his resignation at the club, as he sought a move away. He was denied by the club and hauled the club before the Players’ Status Committee, which ruled in the club’s favour.
Swallows then put a E150 000 initial price tag on the player after learning that their rivals were looking to sign him, which was later lowered to the agreed upon E80 000.
Clearance
Mbabane Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini confirmed that they had bagged their man after they had received the clearance from his former team.
“Yes the player has been released to us. We would like to thank Mbabane Swallows for their cooperation and hope all fans will welcome the player with a warm reception,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mbabane Swallows PRO Knowledge ‘Bambo’ Ngwenya said he was still waiting for an official communication from the club’s management on the matter.
‘Pupu’ will reunite with Siyabonga Bhembe at the team after the two worked together at Mbombela United from South Africa and Mbabane Swallows.
