Africa-Press – Eswatini. EKHAYENI Chillaz hosted a fundraising show on Saturday night that went on till the early hours of yesterday morning.

The concept behind the show was to raise funds for the hospital bills of a young girl, Abongile who suffers from palsy.

The organiser of the show, DJ Matamza, stated that he was touched by the young girl’s story and came up with the idea to get artists together to do a show to raise funds for her. The particular moment that touched his heart was when he watched a TikTok video of her mother lamenting her situation.

“I was on TikTok when I saw Abongile’s mother crying about someone who was trying to take advantage of her pain. This touched me because I was not expecting someone in a dire situation to be treated in the manner that she was. I took the initiative to get artists together to do one big event where the money collected would go and pay the child’s bills,” he said.

At the time of the interview (which was conducted as the show was on-going), Matamza felt as though the funds were being raised but they were not reaching the desired target as the young girl was admitted in an expensive clinic, which had high costs.

“The funds are being raised but the challenge is that she is at Mbabane Clinic and it is expensive. On Thursday, she was being admitted and she had to pay a high amount.

There are high amounts also predicted for the surgery – which has to be conducted soon. People were donating but the money was spent on paying the hospital on Thursday. Now we are back to square one,” he said.

He clarified that all the funds made from the show would then go directly to her account but it was mainly from the gate-taking and the donations people would make once inside the event – it did not include the sales made from the bar or food.

He added that the show was the second fundraising event for Abongile as the one prior was hosted at Mega Lounge. Furthermore, the DJ clarified that he was thinking of taking the young girl to Nelspruit due to the high costs in the country.

“I am thinking of taking her to Nelspruit because the medical bills are a bit expensive in this country so she won’t get the help she needs. I went with her to Nelspruit about three weeks back and that was the first time I met her. I do not know her on a personal level,” he said.

The show attracted throngs of fun lovers who had come to support the cause. It also had a variety of artists and performers who kept the audience on their feet. Knoxman was one DJ who had the front of the stage convert to a dance floor as some patrons took the opportunity to show off their best moves. Following him was DJ Aya City whose set saw the front of the stage packed with dancers.

His set incorporated various Amapiano hits and jams which he masterfully mixed.

Mozaik hopped on stage and performed his hit song, Gwayimane. Fans climbed on to the stage railings to get a better view of the artist as they sang along to his hit-song.

Something that had an interesting twist about the show was that it had attracted fun lovers all the way from the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The patrons were occasionally given a ‘shout-out’ by the MC, Nqaba. One of the patrons clarified to this publication that they were already in the country for other commitments but decided to visit Ekhayeni Chillaz.
