Africa-Press – Eswatini. FORMER Manzini Wanderers South African director Cedric Matata is no more.

News about the passing on of the Nelspruit-based businessman started filtering in Manzini on Saturday night.

The Wanderers family was also notified about the sad news on their WhatsApp groups.

It has been alleged that the businessman shot dead his wife before killing himself in cold blood.

The bone of contention was not known by the time this report was compiled last night.

Matata was the Weslians director in the 2021/22 season when long-time Director Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini was still at the helm.

Making such an occurrence devastating is that there were reports that Matata might make a comeback and take over the struggling crowd-pulling siden, but this dream has vanished like morning dew.

A source close to Wanderers camp confirmed to this publication that Matata had tragically passed on.

“Yes, Matata has died. We still can’t believe it, but I am not the rightful person to comment on this. Please contact the relevant authorities,” said the source.

Shocked

Council of Elders Chairman Joe Nkumane sounded shocked when the sad news was relayed to him.

“It’s news to me. I will try to find out, maybe our secretary has received something to that effect,” he said.

Matata was the last director to help the Weslians financially during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Yes, we heard over the weekend that our former director has passed on. Details are still scanty about what really happened but we are still waiting for official correspondence,” said Berger Nxumalo, the MC Chairman. The death of the former director comes in the wake of the hub giants facing several challenges, as they still do not have a substantive director to run the team. The team’s jinx financially one time led them to move from door-door at the densely populated Moneni, Manzini, asking for donations to vote in the recently-ended MoMo Cup tournament.
